On Thursday, February 22, ACEC of Vermont (ACEC/VT) member firms and guests gathered at the Vermont Statehouse for the 2018 “Day Under the Dome”. This is an annual opportunity for ACEC/VT’s Government Relations Committee and members to meet with legislative leaders, in an effort, to raise awareness of ACEC/VT, the engineering community’s issues of interest and the important work our member firms do for communities throughout the State.
Government relations committee chair, Rich Tetreault of WSP USA, along with committee members, Tom Knight of Stantec and Jon Olin, of Hoyle,Tanner hosted an excellent event that welcomed representatives from over 16 member firms and a dozen plus elected officials. The legislators that were in attendance included the Lieutenant Governor, David Zuckerman, Speaker of the House Mitzi Johnson, Chair of Senate Institutions Peg Flory, Chair of House and Human Services Committee Ann Pugh, Senators John Rodgers, David Soucy, Mark A. MacDonald, Alice W. Nitka. Representatives Peter J. Fagan, Robert Helm, Gabrielle Lucke, James McCoullough, and Joseph Troiano.
The mixer format this year allowed ACEC/VT’s Government Relations Committee and those members in attendance to engage in in-depth discussions with legislative leaders in a relaxed, substantive manner. The topics of discussion included, how ACEC/VT members can assist the legislature in shaping sound public policy by offering their technical expertise on issues like energy policy, clean water initiatives and infrastructure investment. The interest and offer of assistance was well received.
The ACEC of Vermont Board of Directors and the Government Relations Committee would like to thank those legislators that invested the time and effort to attend this important event. We would also like to thank those representatives from member firms in attendance that helped demonstrate the importance of ACEC/VT’s advocacy efforts.
ACEC of Vermont will continue to build our reputation as a trusted resource for the Vermont legislature and offer our members opportunities to engage government/legislative leaders on important issues related to the business of engineering.
